It Is Well

Often when writing a note or sending a text message to a friend I’ll open with the words, “Hope all is well”. These words are sent as a positive greeting or a blessing. Recently our pastor delivered a message on the theme “Dwelling Well”. Sometimes phrases that stay with me, as these have, act as an invitation to meditate. In doing so, these words spoke volumes some of which I’d like to share.

It is well not because of our faith and strength but because of God’s strength. God remains with us as the Holy Spirit within us. There are times when we sense the whisper of God or the nudging to make a certain decision. God’s unconditional love is a constant comfort in dark times as well as times of joy. It is well because all that God does for us is ultimately for our good and God’s glory. We often use the words, Peace be with you or Shalom, to close a gathering. In doing so, we are offering the hope that God’s peace goes with everyone and that all will be well with them.

This time of reflection brought the beautiful old hymn “It Is Well With My Soul” to mind. The words were written by Horatio Spafford at a time of great loss. The words that came to me from the hymn are “When peace like a river attended my way, when sorrows like sea billows roll. Whatever my lot Thou has taught me to say, it is well, it is well with my soul”.

Having shared my thoughts, I’m hoping that you might take time to reflect or meditate on these positive words to discover what message they offer you.

It is well.

Shalom, dear friends.
